Notices
When you start working in the UK, you'll need a National Insurance Number (NI). NI pays for pensions and health services, and numbers are issued through the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).
Call your local council with your postcode and work details to find your local office and make an appointment. You have to be older than 16 years old. Take your passport, proof of address, a letter confirming you're employed or registered with an agency and two or three other forms of ID In six to eight weeks, you'll get your number in the post. It is advisable that you ask for a letter stating that you have applied for the number as technically, it is possible to start working without an NI number. For this, you need a Temporary Number (TN), which is formed by with the digits of your birth date and the initials of your gender. (F, for females and M, for males).
